san miguel inspiration
This series was created during the Saint Michael’s festival in San Miguel de Allende with a handheld camera that was shaken to create abstractions of light and form. After printing, I painted over them with gesso to obscure the images and to explore a new dimension, by using pastel, acrylic and moist cloths to uncover some of the illuminating colors from the original abstractions. This work, being more atmospheric and less about shapes and volume, led me to use my abstract photography as a visual armature to create a formal clarity of artistic expression.
